IN HIS PRESENCE
In His Presence
22 And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the Testimony, about everything which I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel. — Exodus 25:22
“His presence is the one place where every question in your life finds its answer.” — PG
There are moments in Scripture where God does not simply reveal something. He reveals where He wants to meet and what He wants to speak about . Exodus 25 is one of those moments. God gives Moses detailed instructions for building the Ark of the Covenant. To modern readers it can feel like architectural blueprints. Measurements. Materials. Rings. Poles. Gold overlays. But hidden inside those details is one of the most powerful statements in the entire Bible.
Exodus 25:22 “And there I will meet with you.” Not everywhere. Not anywhere. There. God was establishing a meeting place. The Ark of the Covenant represented the visible center of God’s presence among His people. It was not magic. It was not decoration. It was the sacred symbol that God had chosen to dwell among them.
Inside the Ark were three sacred reminders of what happens when God’s presence comes among His people. Each one tells us something about what we should expect when we encounter Him today. And when His presence comes, things begin to happen that cannot be manufactured by programs, personalities, or human effort. Because when God shows up, everything changes.
First, in His presence there is provision.
Inside the Ark was a jar of manna. The manna was bread from heaven placed inside the Ark as a reminder that God Himself provides for His people. In the wilderness there were no fields, no farms, and no grocery stores. Yet every morning God rained provision from heaven. The manna was heaven’s declaration that where God’s presence is, there will always be enough. It was not just food. It was a testimony. And that same testimony still echoes today.
When people come into the presence of God, provision shows up every time. Peace for those who are in pieces. Rest for those who are restless. Strength for those who are stretched. Hope for those who feel helpless. Clarity for those who are confused. Courage for those crippled by fear. Healing for those who are hurting. Joy for those who are joyless. Direction for those who are drifting. The presence of God does not always give you everything you want. But He always gives you exactly what you need.
A.W. Tozer once wrote, “God is looking for people through whom He can do the impossible. What a pity we plan only the things we can do ourselves.” The manna reminds us that God has never depended on natural supply to take care of His people.
Second, in His presence dead things come alive.
Also inside the Ark was Aaron’s rod. Aaron’s rod was nothing more than a dead stick. It had been cut from a tree. It had no root system, no soil, no water source. Yet in the presence of God, that dead rod budded, blossomed, and produced almonds overnight. Heaven was making a statement. What looks finished to man is not finished to God.
The same God who caused a dead rod to bloom is the God who resurrects dead things in our lives. Dead faith can live again. Dead dreams can live again. Dead marriages can live again. Dead callings can live again. Dead churches can live again. Dead hope can live again. Dead prayer lives can live again. Because the presence of God is resurrection territory.
Charles Spurgeon once said, “There is no attribute of God more comforting to His children than the doctrine of divine sovereignty.” In other words, if God has the final word, then nothing is truly over until He says it is over.
Third, in His presence the penalties are paid.
Also inside the Ark were the tablets of the Ten Commandments. The law revealed the holy standard of God. It exposed sin but could never remove it. The law showed humanity our problem, but it could not provide our solution. That is why Jesus came. He fulfilled every command. Every requirement. Every righteous demand of the law.
At the cross He paid every penalty sin had created. The penalty of death. God’s wrath against sin. Condemnation. The curse of the law. Separation from God. Shame. Bondage. The fear of death. The accusations of the enemy. Jesus did not pretend sin was not real. He paid for it. Completely. So that those who trust in Him could stand before God forgiven, justified, and restored.
But above the Ark was something even more powerful than what was inside it. The mercy seat.
This was the lid of the Ark where the high priest sprinkled the blood once a year on the Day of Atonement. Without the blood, no one could approach. Hebrews 9:7 tells us the priest entered the Holy of Holies “not without blood.” When the blood was applied, something miraculous happened. The seat of judgment became the seat of mercy. That is why we run toward the mercy seat today. Because the blood of Jesus has made a way for us to meet with God.
Exodus 25:22 says it clearly.
“There I will meet with you.” God was not only creating a sacred object. He was creating a sacred encounter.
And the same invitation still stands today. God is still meeting with people. He still speaks. He still heals. He still restores. He still forgives. He still revives hearts that have grown cold. Because when His presence comes, mercy seat miracles happen.
Live This Out Loud
Turn On: “Show Me Your Face / Yahweh” by Red Worship & Lizzie Morgan and proceed through the rest of this blog.
Create space daily for God’s presence. Turn off distractions and spend time in prayer and worship.
Bring your real needs before God. His presence is where provision is released.
Ask God to breathe life into areas that feel spiritually dead. Nothing is beyond His power to restore.
Run toward the mercy of Jesus, not away from it. His blood made access possible.
My Prayer:
Holy Spirit, I come to You in the name of Jesus. Draw me deeper into Your presence. Let my life be marked by encounters with You. Provide what I need, resurrect what has died, and remind me daily that the blood of Jesus has paid every penalty against me. Teach me to walk in holy reverence, humility, and hunger for You. Let Your presence be the defining mark on my life. Amen.
May the Lord, the God of your ancestors, increase you a thousand times and bless you as He has promised. — Deuteronomy 1:11
