SIGNS WILL FOLLOW

Signs Will Follow

“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” — Mark 16:17–18 (NKJV)

“When you chase Jesus, you don’t have to chase the signs.” — PG

There is a difference between chasing the signs and chasing the One the signs point to. God’s power is not just something we read about in Scripture. Jesus calls believers to follow Him with faith, expectation, and a willingness to move when He says move.

The word follow is important. The signs do not lead us to Jesus; they follow those who believe in Him. Our focus must remain on the One who has the power, not simply on what we want Him to do.

The Gospel Is More Than Information

The church has no shortage of preaching, worship, or music, but we must ask ourselves whether we are expecting God to demonstrate His power. First Corinthians 2:4–5 reminds us that our faith should rest in the power of God, not the wisdom of people.

Knowing the Word matters, but faith must move beyond knowledge. We cannot simply talk about what Jesus has done without believing He can still work through those who follow Him. The gospel is not powerless, and our expectation should reflect that truth.

When Warfare Comes, Keep Following

Many believers assume that hardship means they have done something wrong. Yet following Jesus does not mean we will never face opposition. Sometimes the journey includes spiritual battles, difficult seasons, and moments when we must hold tightly to what God has spoken.

Opposition does not automatically mean failure. Instead of allowing hardship to pull us away from Jesus, we must remain rooted in Him and trust Him through the battle.

What Do the Signs Point To?

Mark 16:17–18 describes signs connected to believers who follow Jesus:

• Deliverance: Jesus has authority over the forces of darkness.

• Empowerment: The Holy Spirit equips believers for His purposes.

• Victory: We can stand in the authority of Jesus.

• Preservation: Our lives remain in God's hands.

• Healing: We can pray for those who are sick and trust God to work.

These signs point to the power and authority of Jesus, not our own abilities. We are not called to manufacture miracles or make ourselves look powerful. We are called to follow Him and trust His name.

Are You Chasing Signs or Chasing Jesus?

It is easy to become so focused on what we need from God that we lose sight of God Himself. We chase healing, deliverance, and victory, but Jesus is not simply a means to an end. He is the destination.

John 14:12 reminds us that those who believe in Jesus will participate in the works He does. This is not about talent, personality, or technique. It is about trusting Jesus and allowing Him to work through us.

When we keep our eyes on Him, we stop trying to force an outcome. We follow where He leads and trust His power to accomplish what we cannot do ourselves.

Spiritual Authority Is Not About Volume

A louder prayer is not necessarily a more powerful prayer. Spiritual authority does not come from our personality, title, or emotional intensity. It comes from the name of Jesus.

When we pray for someone who is hurting, we are not bringing our own power into the situation. We are coming before God in faith, asking Him to move according to His will. Our responsibility is to pray, believe, and trust Him with the outcome.

That truth should free us from the pressure of trying to make something happen. We do not have to prove our faith through performance. We simply need to remain obedient to Jesus.

How Do You Pray for Someone Who Needs a Miracle?

When God brings someone across your path who is hurting, you do not have to have every answer. You do not need to understand every detail of their situation before you pray.

Pray with compassion and boldness. Ask God to bring healing, deliverance, strength, and victory in the name of Jesus. Acts 4:29–30 shows the early church asking for boldness to speak God's Word and for Him to stretch out His hand to heal.

We can follow that example by praying with expectation while leaving the outcome in God's hands. Our confidence is not in our reputation or ability, but in the One we serve.

Are You Settling for Less Than You Believe God Has Promised?

Third John 1:2 expresses a prayer for believers to prosper and be in health as their souls prosper. This challenges us to consider whether we are allowing fear, circumstances, or other people's opinions to shape our expectations more than God's Word.

We should bring our needs before God and seek Him faithfully. Rather than letting a difficult report become the final word over our lives, we can continue praying and trusting Him. We must remember that faith does not mean pretending difficulties are not real; it means refusing to let those difficulties become greater than our confidence in God.

What might change if we made more room for prayer, sought God's presence, and trusted Him with the things we cannot control?

Are You a Pretender or a Believer?

Belief is more than agreeing with something in our minds. A believer puts their trust in the risen Jesus and responds to His leading. Faith that never moves cannot leave an aftermath.

Romans 1:16 reminds us that the gospel is the power of God. This promise is not reserved for pastors, preachers, or people with a platform. Every believer is called to follow Jesus and live as a witness to His power.

We must decide whether we will let fear define us or stand in faith as we follow Him. The signs are not something we perform to prove ourselves. They point to Jesus, the One we believe in and serve.

Live It Out Loud

This week, shift your focus from what you need to who Jesus is. Instead of only asking for healing, spend time seeking the Healer. Instead of chasing deliverance, pursue the Deliverer. Instead of focusing on victory, follow the One who has already overcome.

Choose one area of your life where fear, circumstances, or someone else's opinion has shaped what you believe. Bring that area to God in prayer and begin aligning your thoughts with His Word. Pray with expectation, speak with humility and faith, and trust Him with the outcome.

• Worship the King: Listen to "Break Every Chain" by Tasha Cobbs while you finish reading this.

• Follow Jesus First: Stop chasing signs and focus on the One who performs them. Seek the Healer, pursue the Deliverer, and follow the One who has already won the victory.

• Pray With Expectation: Don’t let prayer become routine or empty words. Believe God can move, and trust His power as you bring your needs before Him.

• Stand on God’s Word: Identify an area where fear, circumstances, or other people’s opinions have shaped your thinking. Choose to align your faith with what God says.

• Pray Boldly for Others: When someone is hurting, don’t be afraid to pray for them. Ask God for healing, deliverance, strength, and victory in the name of Jesus.

• Stop Depending on Performance: Remember that spiritual authority isn’t about how loud you pray, how you look, or what title you hold. The power comes from Jesus, not you.

• Trust God With the Outcome: Your responsibility is to follow Him, pray in faith, and remain obedient. Leave the results in His hands instead of trying to force a miracle.

• Live What You Believe: Faith is more than agreeing with Scripture; it means moving when Jesus calls you to move. Let your life point others toward His power and presence.

The signs will follow those who believe—not those who perform or simply try to be the loudest, but those who believe in Jesus and keep following Him.

My Prayer

Lord, help me keep my eyes on You instead of becoming distracted by what I want You to do. Give me boldness to pray for others, faith to trust Your power, and humility to remember that the power comes from You, not me. Teach me to follow You even when I cannot see the outcome. Let my life point others to Jesus. In Your name, amen.

"May the LORD, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are and bless you, as he has promised you!" - Deuteronomy 1:11

Marked By His Presence,
